The Roca Sorter was created in 2018 to help game store owners
manage their TCG inventory faster, easier and more accurately, so
they can focus on what matters most - delighting their customers!
Our team continues to improve our products and technology, expand
our software to support more TCGs while providing excellent support
to Roca Sorter customers. Roca Robotics designs, manufactures and
supports automation and digitization hardware and software for
sorting and managing collectibles. Roca's current product, the Roca
Sorter, can fully alphabetize 1000 Magic, Pokemon, or YuGiOh cards
in two hours.

Who You Are
The Roca Director of Engineering is responsible for all day to day
engineering activities at Roca Robotics supporting the current
generation of Roca Sorters. This includes hardware engineering to
address reliability issues as well as sustain production and
software engineering to improve our customers' experience and
support new releases of collectible cards. you will work onsite in
our Longmont, CO office alongside our staff to build the best
product possible.
You will mentor and grow a multilevel team of software and hardware
engineers while managing continued improvement across all areas of
reliability, performance, risk management and visibility.
You are an experienced technical executive who has acted as an
Agent of Growth in leading an IT organization through aggressive
growth. You are also an Agent of Change ; you are a fierce advocate
for software engineering best practices and for providing
exceptional experiences for customers, and you have a track record
of successfully leading transformational change.

Maintaining great relationships with the leaders of the other
departments - including Engineering, Product, Customer Service and

Managing, leading and evaluating the team based on goals, metrics
and clear performance standards
Overseeing production issues through resolution with the goal of
automating to prevent problem recurrence
Manage multiple engineers supporting Roca Robotics' business
objectives
Manage software engineering, including balancing priorities from
multiple stakeholders and dividing work between individual
contributors with different skillsets
Manage hardware engineering, including the development of new
hardware products, revisions of existing products, and engineering
necessary to address parts shortages and end of life.
Develop roadmaps, project plans, and schedules for a variety of
software and robotics projects.
Provide clear communication and commitments to deliver objectives
on time with many competing priorities
Provide high-level strategic direction on team projects, and ensure
effective prioritization of work assignments and management of team
resources, activities and deadlines
Researching and developing recommendations for revising or adopting
technical practices, including the adoption of new tools or
software to assist in the efficient delivery of our technical
objectives
Assess the compatibility and integration of products/services
proposed as standards in order to ensure an integrated architecture
across interdependent technologies
Actively works to remove obstacles for the team and ensure
compliance with various regulatory requirements (FCC, CE Mark,
WEEE) by filing reports and scheduling certification testing as
needed
Managing the departmental budget for vendors, tools and
training
Producing documentation, communications and planning artifacts
What You Bring to the Team
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology or a
related field or equivalent work experience
8 eight years of software development experience with 3 years of
experience in leadership of technical engineering teams in a
complex and dynamic environment; managing and developing an
engineering team of at least 4 people
Experience balancing priorities and determining what work needs to
be done in a resource constrained environment
Knowledge about various regulatory requirements (FCC, CE Mark,
WEEE)
Demonstrated expertise in the area of software engineering and how
it works with hardware
Excellent oral and written communication skills with engineers and
non-engineers alike
Strong ability to mentor engineers, helping them improve their
skills and grow their careers
Proven success leading, managing and hiring a team of talented
engineers
Proven success project managing technical deliverables in an agile
environment
You'll Go Beyond If You have
Prior robotics experience
Experience with hardware engineering and software engineering
Interest in collectible cards (Magic, Pokemon, YuGiOh, Sport Cards,
etc) and/or knowledge of the market

Compensation
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is
expected in the range below.
$150,000-$180,000
Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized
factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total
compensation package for this position may also include other
elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as
applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial,
and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various
paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of
participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an
employee receives an offer of employment.
